DCP encryption offers your film protection from unauthorized access & distribution. AES encryption is used to encrypt MXF files (audio & video). AES keys are encrypted using Asymmetric 2048-bit RSA. AES has 2 keys, public and private. The former is handed over to the owner or the distributor while the latter remains stored in the playback system.
Once the encryption is completed, a Key Delivery Message (KDM) is generated which is an XML file carrying the AES keys. Keys protects by the way of limiting the use. It allows the files to be played on the specified devices and that too with the private key of the devices. Furthermore, KDMs can also create time and date limits on the data and projection system for which it will be played upon. Simply put, it will allow the system to play the package in that specified date and time only.
